NO Glass Allowed

06/30/07 - A growing problem at both the Hiestand Park and Elver Park Disc Golf Courses is the increase of glass containers on the course.

With the Adopt-A-Hole project in full swing at both courses there has been an increase in the discussions about what to do about the glass. Glass containers are making the trash bags extra heavy and our causing a safety concern for the volunteers. One volunteer was recently cut by a piece of broken glass that cut through the trash bag and cut them in the leg while removing the bag from the course. Broken glass is also ending up near the teeboxes creating another hazard.

There is a City Ordinance on the books that prohibits glass in any city park which reads
8.24 ALCOHOL BEVERAGE CONTROL AND CONTAINER CONTROL ON CERTAIN PUBLIC PROPERTY. (3) No person may possess any cup, glass, flask, bottle or other container made of glass or other shatterable material designed or used for holding a beverage in City of Madison parks.

So please DO NOT BRING GLASS containers to either course. The city has informed the club it is possible for individuals to be issued citations for violating the above ordinance.

Helping Keep the Courses Clean

05/27/07 - The 2007 Adopt-A-Hole Project is off to a great start. This year 38 people have volunteered to Adopt-A-Hole at either the Elver Park Disc Golf course or Hiestand Park Disc Golf course.

You can still help. When you see garbage on the ground pick it up and throw it in one of the Blue Adopt-A-Hole trash cans, located by each short teepad at both Elver and Hiestand. If you are interested in adopting your own hole there are still a couple of holes at each course that could be yours.

For more information you can go to the Adopt-A-Hole Page or you can join the discussion on the MADC Forum.

The First Tuesday Night Showcase 18 is Set

05/23/07 - The May series is over and the Showcase qualifiers are in the books. On May 29th, Jefferon Noel, Alex Syse, Lucas Berna and Ron James will be playing for the title of May Showcase Champion. The winner will take home an Innova DISCatcher Mini along with other prizes. Everyone in the finals will take home something.

Over the past four weeks, seventy (70) players have made their way out to Hiestand Disc Golf Course to participate in the Tuesday Night Handicap League. A couple new elements to the league this season sparked new enthusiasm and high player turnout.

A point system was developed to pit players against each other over a month-long time frame. In the end, the top four point earners for the month, qualify for the Showcase Finals. The Finals will be taped, edited and will air on Madison Community Access Channel 4 (WYOU). There will be four showcases during the season (May, June, July and August).

The Showcase foursome will be teeing off at 5:15 p.m. on May 29th. Spectators are encouraged to come out and watch the action from the gallery. League players can be involved with the gallery and still get their June-series points, as league coordinator Dave Delap will be sending league groups out starting at 4:30 p.m.

2007 Memorial High School Spirit Day

Some of the 2007 JMMHS Spirit Day Volunteers

05/04/07 - On Monday April 30th close to 30 student volunteers descended on the Elver Park Disc Golf Course to help get the course prepared for the 2007 disc golf season.

Students from Memorial High School helped remove broken glass from near the teepads, install all the baskets, remove trash from the course, distribute the Adopt-A-Hole garbage cans and clear the fairways. Students also helped prepare the Adopt-A-Hole garbage cans for Hiestand Park's Disc Golf Course.

With the help the Student volunteers, school advisors, and MADC Board members the Elver Park Disc Golf Course was able to be put in the ground sooner than previously planned. For pictures of the work day at Elver Park Click Here
