We've received word from the City of Madison that the disc golf course at Hiestand Park is being installed today and should be open by the end of the day. Don't forget to buy your daily or annual permit! No specific date has been set to open Elver, but it is still likely at least a week away.

We continue to monitor course openings and closings throughout winter and spring.
Please visit our Course Openings / Closings page for the most comprehensive and up to-date information.
We ask that you PELASE stay off the courses that are closed. As the spring thaw begins, we are entering the muddiest season of the year. In the Midwest, we are held captive by the weather. We need dry, sunny days to get the ground firm enough for trucks to put the baskets back in the ground and support the foot traffic. Foot traffic when the ground is still soft creates erosion, which results in premature aging.
We can all do our part to keep the courses healthy, which includes waiting for the grounds to recover the winter melt and courses to safely reopen.
Mad City Disc Golf is the proud recipient of Madison Parks' 2013 Partner of the Year Award for our continued collaboration with the City of Madison in promoting, supporting and improving disc golf in Madison.
"After several years of collaboration with Madison Parks, Madison Area Disc Golf has earned the Partner of the Year Award. Because of their dedication to the sport of disc golf, the Elver Park and Heistand Disc Golf Courses were installed. Since then, [MCDG] has been instrumental in the advocacy, maintenance, usage and promotion of the Disc Golf courses in Madison and, most recently, have participated in Madison Parks programs like Ride the Drive, Goodman Pool Days, and “Learn to…” workshops. Their assistance in the “pay to play” disc golf permit system was monumental to the positive outcome of the change and to a strong future for the Disc Golf community." - Madison Parks
We thank all of our past and present members and supporters. We couldn't have made this kind of impact without you!
Check it out at www.MadCityOpen.org. All the details are there, and registration will open no later than April 1st.
The 22nd Mad City Open (MCO) is an annual disc golf event sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) and Wisconsin Disc Golf Tour. This year’s event will be hosted by Mad City Disc Golf and its members. The event will be held on Saturday 8/23 through Sunday 8/24 at parks in and around Madison - Capital Springs, Hiestand, Bird's Ruins, and Vallarta-Ast.
The Mad City Open is a PDGA sanctioned A-tier event. PDGA membership is required to participated in the event.
Due to its popularity, the MCO typically draws a handful of current and past world champions each year. These types of professionals provide a level of competition that draws spectators of all sorts -- recreational disc golfers, beginners, children and community members. If you don't plan on participating in the event, we strongly encourage you to join us as a spectator!
Mark next Saturday, March 1st on your calendars. Glide Disc Golf is running an OPEN PUTTING SESSION at the KEVA Sports Center in Middleton from 6:00-10:00 p.m.
It's been a long, rough winter. Most of the area courses are closed. This is a great opportunity to have some fun, work on your putting and hang out with fellow disc golfers.
The event is open to everyone. The cost is $6 per person (paid at the door to KEVA). Concessions will be available including beer.
We will have several baskets set up including an Innova DISCatcher Pro, DGA Mach III, Discraft Chainstar and Gateway's Bullseye Training Basket. Various distances will be marked off from each basket (i.e. 10 ft., 15 ft., 20 ft., 25 ft., 30 ft., 10 meters, etc.). Innova Discs has generously provided an assortment of their putters for you to test!
We hope to see a lot of disc golfers at KEVA on Saturday. If this event goes well, Glide may be hosting more of them in the future!

InDiGo will be running a traveling league throughout the winter and into the spring. They will play a few temp courses as conditions allow starting this weekend.
Random Draw Doubles starts at 10:00 am and costs $5 to play.

The disc golf course at Hiestand is now closed for the winter. Here is the text of an email we received today from the Parks Dept:
"Due to the “relatively speaking” warm rain forecasted over the next 36 hours followed by the quick and deep drop in temps we are now out pulling the baskets at Hiestand Golf Course due to concerns over turf conditions and our ability to remove the baskets once that rainwater freezes them in as the temps plummet. We will return the baskets as soon as ground conditions are favorable in the spring. Thanks to all for a great 2013 Disc Golf season."
They also said that they cleared leaves from, aerated, seeded, and fertilized a substantial portion of the course. So, hopefully, this is a good step towards improved turf conditions.
