The City of Madison is planning to close the disc golf course at Elver Park for the season on Monday, November 18th. The course, with a few changes, will reopen in the spring, typically around May 1st.
The disc golf course at Johnson Park in Maple Bluff is now closed for the season. It is expected to reopen in mid-to-late May of 2014.
Since it is that time of year, please be sure to check out out our Course Openings / Closings page for information on seasonal course closures. We will update the page as soon as we receive any information about any of the courses. Please check that page before calling any of the local park departments, Glide, the club, etc to ask if courses are open or closed. Thanks!
Do you want to see a disc golf course in Fitchburg? Based in part on the successful Fitchburg Disc Golf Day a few years ago, and followup work between the club, Glide Disc Golf, and parks staff, the city has been interested in finding the right place for installation of a disc golf course. They are currently assessing options for the Nine Springs Golf Course along Fish Hatchery Rd, whether to keep it as a ball golf course, or convert it to a park. One of the specific alternatives is inclusion of a disc golf course. Please see the following page for more info, including info about an open house this Thursday (Oct 24th) to discuss options:
We would love to have club members, ESPECIALLY Fitchburg residents, offer their support of disc golf at this open house. The open house is Thursday, October 24th, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, at the Fitchburg Christian Fellowship Church, 2924 Fish Hatchery Road, just south of the Beltline, past Wendy's and BMO Harris bank.
From the City of Madison Parks Department:
"The Elver Park Disc Golf Course will be closed for the day on Friday, October 11 for a special Cross-Country Championship race. We thank you for your patience and understanding. The course will re-open on Saturday, Oct. 12."
If you are a club member and did not attend the Fall Picnic, you may still vote for the club's Board of Directors by stopping at Glide Disc Golf through this Saturday, October 5th. More information about the board and the election can be found on our Board of Directors Elections page.
This event serves as a Thank You to our members for supporting the club and the Greater Madison disc golf community. Not a member yet? Don't worry, you can join on-site!
Vallarta Ast Disc Golf Course in Token Creek Park and the Mad City Disc Golf are hosting this year's activities.
Visit Wisconsin Disc Sports for more event details.
Good luck to all the Madison area players!
The election to determine the 2013-14 MCDG Board of Directors will be held from Sunday, Sept 29th to Saturday, Oct 5th. You must be a club member to vote or sit on the Board of Directors. Please see the following page for more information on voting and running for a spot:
We encourage all club members to vote and consider running for a spot on the Board. Please talk to a current board members, or post to the forum or Facebook page if you have any questions about the board, meetings, duties, or the election.
We've got a great weekend of disc golf coming up. Last we checked, at least half of the "extra" 50 spots for the Ace Race (Sun Sept 8th at Hiestand) have already been claimed. Get in to Glide to claim yours.
Start off the weekend by playing in the Bird's Ruins Fall Classic on Saturday, Sept 7th. This event, hosted by Marshall Parks and Recreation and the Rebel Disc Golf Club, consists of two rounds at Bird's Ruins, cash prizes, food and beverage on site, and live music afterwards. Registration is available at I Registered Online.
You have been challenged! We received 94 registrations for the Ace Race on Sept 8th, but "accidentally" ordered 144 player packs, which was how many players there were last year. That means there are 50 spots still available ... but not for long. If you haven't registered yet, we're giving you another chance. If you have registered already, thank you, but now go get some of your disc golfing friends and family to join you! The more players we get, the bigger and better additional prizes we can offer, but remember that the player pack alone is worth twice your $25 entry fee. Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis at Glide Disc Golf. We've already ordered the packs, so once we hit 144 registered players, that's it.
As a reminder, you do NOT need a City of Madison disc golf permit to play in the Ace Race. We paid to rent the course for our participants.
