Thanks for your understanding!
Many people have noticed that this website is not updated very often anymore. We encourage you to visit our Facebook page for the latest information from the club. Not everyone (including the author of this post) is a fan of Facebook, but it is the best tool we have right now and the one most likely to be used by our active board members. This website may not be permanently shut down anytime soon, but we do not anticipate updating it very much in the near future. Again, our Facebook page is at:

Am Worlds activities officially start in one week! This means that will be a large number of out-of-town visitors starting to come in to practice, and the courses are going to get more crowded. This also means that the courses will be closed to public play during the tournament.
The following courses are being used for Am Worlds:
Elver and Hiestand (Madison)
Capital Springs and Vallarta-Ast @ Token Creek (Dane Co)
Bird's Ruins (Marshall)
The first closures will be next Saturday, July 9th, for Hiestand and Vallarta-Ast (Token Creek), where the Junior and Mixed Doubles events will take place. The other three courses will likely be very crowded.
On Sunday and Monday (10th-11th), while there are no official events on the courses, almost 600 competitors will be looking to get their final practice rounds in. Don't forget to come watch the field events (Sunday 10-4 @ Reindahl Park), and check out the huge flymart (Monday 11-5 @ the Crowne Plaza hotel).
From Tuesday the 12th to Friday the 15th, all five courses will be closed to public play.
On Saturday the 16th, Elver and Capital Springs will reopen. Hiestand and Bird's Ruins will be closed for at least the morning during the tournament semifinal rounds. Vallarta-Ast (Token Creek) will be closed all day for semifinals and finals. We would love to see huge spectator crowds out for the Finals (on Holes 19-27), so come on out and watch some new World Champions get crowned!
Please note that the tournament schedule is subject to change due to weather and other factors. For add'l information on the event, see the official website (http://www.pdga.com/2016amworlds) and/or follow the official PDGA Amateur Disc Golf World Championships Facebook page.
This year's local edition of the Discraft Ace Race will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19th, at Capital Springs DGC. If you've played in the Ace Race before, you know how much fun it is. If you haven't, well, you should! The cost is just $25 and includes a great player pack and the opportunity to make 36 ace runs! Please see the following for more details:

Please be aware of the following disc golf course closures due to this weekend's Mad City Open.
Saturday, August 15th:
Elver, Hiestand, Bird's Ruins, and Vallarta - Ast @ Token Creek (Holes 1-18) are all closed to public play until the conclusion of the afternoon round (approximately 5:00 PM). Holes 19-27 at Vallarta-Ast are open (Dane County permit required as normal).
Sunday, August 16th:
Elver, Hiestand, Bird's Ruins, and Vallarta - Ast @ Token Creek (Holes 1-18) are all closed to public play until the conclusion of the morning round (approximately noon). Holes 19-27 at Vallarta-Ast are open (Dane County permit required) until 1:00 PM, at which time those nine holes will be closed in order to accommodate the Final 9 for the tournament.
Please note that Capital Springs DGC is not being used for the tournament this year, and will be open (Dane County permit required) as usual.
Spectators are welcome to come watch at all times. We especially encourage spectators to come to Vallarta-Ast on Sunday where the Men's and Women's Open Divisions will be playing in the morning, and then stay for the Final 9 in the early afternoon (appx. 2:00 PM).
We got word from the City of Madison Parks Department that the disc golf course at Elver Park will be temporarily closed from July 1st through about noon on July 3rd due to the fireworks show. Many of the baskets will be removed, as the course encompasses part of the explosives safety perimeter. Please stay off the entire course for those two-and-a-half days!! Thanks!
The MCDG Board has decided to postpone the Spring Kickoff to the rain date of May 9th, in two weeks. Even if the chances for additional rain tomorrow morning and mid-day do not materialize, the forecast still calls for damp, cool, and windy conditions, and the course may still be soggy from this evening's rain. We realize this decision won't please everyone, but we feel it is in the best interests of the club and the Vallarta-Ast disc golf course. We look forward to better weather and a strong turnout on May 9th. Thank you for your patience.
Also, please note that the Short Grass Open is still scheduled to take place on Sunday at Capital Springs. The $10 additional fee for registering on-site on Sunday will be waived.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend, and gets some disc golf in one way or another!
The annual Stoughton Kiwanis Disc Golf Rally will be held on Saturday, May 2nd, at the course in Amundson Park. The cost is only $5 per person ($10 max per family), and the first 20 registered students (K-12) will receive a free disc! For more information, please visit:
NOTE: Fall Picnic is October 5th, not the 15th as shown in the title.
This event serves as a Thank You to our members for supporting the club and the Greater Madison disc golf community. Not a member yet? Don't worry, you can join on-site!
The election to determine the 2014-15 MCDG Board of Directors will be held during this event. You must be a club member to vote or sit on the Board of Directors. Interested in running for a board position? Visit our Board of Directors page to learn more about the responsibilities.

The Mad City Open will be held this weekend, August 23rd-24th. The MCO is a PDGA Super Tour (A-Tier) event, and we expect over 250 players to compete. The Vallarta-Ast (Token Creek), Capital Springs (Lake Farm), Hiestand Park, and Bird's Ruins disc golf courses are all reserved for the tournament and will be closed to public play as follows:
On Saturday, all four courses will be closed until the completion of the second round of the tournament (approximately 5:00 PM). However, holes 19-27 at Vallarta-Ast will be open all day Saturday (please park near shelter #5, by holes 25-27).
On Sunday, Capital Springs, Hiestand, and Bird's Ruins will be closed until the completion of the third round of the tournament (approximately 1:00 PM). All 27 holes at Vallarta-Ast will be used for the tournament on Sunday and closed to public play until approximately 5:00 PM.
All times are approximate, and will be dependent on weather and other factors. Please do not play any of the courses until you can confirm that tournament play is completed for the day. Spectators are welcome to come watch the tournament at all times at all courses. The top players will be finishing their tournament on Holes 19-27 at Vallarta-Ast on Sunday afternoon, which is a great place to see the action.
Please note that other area courses will be open for play all weekend, such as Elver Park, Stoughton, Maple Bluff, Waterloo, Watertown, Evansville, Edgerton, Exeter, Portage, Beaver Dam, Waupun, Horicon, Lodi, Prairie du Sac, Arena, Baraboo, Cambridge, Milton, Janesville, etc. If you're not going to join us at the Mad City Open, this may be a great time to check out a course you haven't played before.
We thank you for your cooperation in allowing us to host one of the premier disc golf tournaments in the Midwest.
