3rd Annual Kiwanis Disc Golf Tournament
September 8, 2007
Stoughton Kiwanis Disc Golf Course
Amundson Park - Stoughton, Wisconsin

A fun event open to players of all levels of experience and skill taking place at the scenic Stoughton Kiwanis Disc Golf Course in Amundson Park on Saturday, September 8, 2007

This tournament is a fun event to introduce America’s fastest growing sport, disc golf, to the community.  Players of similar skill and age levels will compete against one another in an 18 hole, lowest score competition. The entry fee of only $3 per student, $5 per adult, or $10 per family includes entry into the competition, an opportunity to learn how to play Disc Golf from advanced players, the chance to win prizes in their division and novelty categories, plus eligibility to win door prizes at the event.

Never tried disc golf?

There are separate brackets for beginning and advanced players with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in each division. Prior to the start of competition, experienced disc golfers will offer a Free Disc Golf Clinic and answer questions.  If you don’t own a disc yet, bring a Frisbee or buy one from a limited supply available for sale at the event.

Schedule
Registration and Free Disc Golf Clinic at 9:15 AM
Players Meeting and Shotgun Start at 10:00 AM
Awards Ceremony at noon

*In case of rain, the tournament will be held Saturday September 15

Kiwanis Disc Golf Tournament to Raise Funds for Youth Center

On Saturday September 8, the Stoughton Kiwanis Club is hosting its 3rd Annual Kiwanis Disc Golf Tournament.  All profits from the event will go towards the construction of the new Stoughton Youth Center.  The event will be held at the scenic Kiwanis Disc Golf Course at Amundson Park on Stoughton’s east side.

This is a different kind of fundraiser.  Kiwanians like to think of it as a “fun-raiser,” as well as a “fund-raiser” for the Youth Center.  For those not familiar with the sport, disc golf is similar to traditional golf and uses special discs smaller than Frisbees®.  Players compete in an eighteen-hole, lowest score competition against other players of similar skills and age levels for fun and prizes.  The entry fee of only $3 per student, $5 per adult, or $10 per family includes entry into the competition, an opportunity to learn how to play Disc Golf from advanced players, and the chance to win prizes in both division and novelty categories.  In addition, participants are eligible for door prizes donated by local sponsors.  Everyone has a chance to come away a winner.

There are separate brackets for beginning and advanced players with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in each division. Those who have never played disc golf are especially encouraged to attend. Prior to the start of competition, experienced disc golfers will offer a Free Disc Golf Clinic and answer questions.  If you don’t own a disc yet, bring a Frisbee® or buy a disc from a limited supply available for sale at the event.  “You don’t have to know anything about Disc Golf to come out a have a great time with your family and support the Youth Center,” according to Barry Verdegan, Stoughton Kiwanis President.  “If you can throw a Frisbee®, you can play disc golf.  The experienced players will be there to demonstrate techniques and answer questions.”

Even if you don’t play, you can still come and show your support for local youth by coming out and cheering on the competitors.  Refreshments will be available for purchase.  All profits from the event, including entry fees and food sales, will go towards the new Stoughton Youth Center.

The Stoughton Youth Center has outgrown it current shared facility.  Space is needed for new programs and to expand service to other age groups.  The Stoughton Youth Center is a positive program with adult supervision that is making a difference in our community.  Tournament competitors will experience firsthand our youth in action, as volunteer spotters from the Youth Center and the new Stoughton High School Key Club will be helping players locate errant discs during the tournament.

Kiwanis, whose mission is to “change the world one child and one community at a time,” has been involved in many community projects in Stoughton.  Tom Lynch, Stoughton Parks and Recreation Director, has worked closely with the Kiwanis over the past several years and states, “the Kiwanis Club continues to provide opportunities for the youth in Stoughton. Besides the creation of the disc golf course, they have supported our youth center and are currently involved in other city projects."  Lynch continues, “Fundraising continues for the creation of new and larger youth center. We are extremely pleased that the Kiwanis club is donating proceeds from the disc golf tournament to that fund.”

The schedule for the September 8 tournament is as follows:

9:00        Free disc golf clinic
9:45        Players  meeting
10:00        Shotgun start
12:00        Awards ceremony

For more information on the tournament, please go to www.stoughtoncityguide.com and click on Community Services and go to the Kiwanis site.  Advanced registration is encouraged, but you will be able to register on the day of the event.  Registration forms are available on-line, at the Stoughton Public Library, Stoton Cycle, or the Stoughton Chamber of Commerce.  In case of rain, the tournament will be held September 15.  Please come and support our local youth.

Gotta wonder what the skeeters will be like @ Stoughton?

Wonder how dry it will be as well.

Who is going to Stoughton for a little different Saturday morning experience?

Come on Mike, leave that one for the youngsters.  Come join the rest of us old timers at the Advil Open (aka Viagra Open, AARP Open, Geritol Invitational) in Point this weekend.  Cheesy

It should also be dryer in the land of sand & spuds.
