The baskets will be removed from Hiestand starting this morning.

Please help the course get ready for the upcoming season by NOT playing Hiestand until it is back in the ground.

Baskets will be going back in the ground when the ground has dried up and the grass is begining to green.  The goal of the club is to have the course back in the ground as soon as possible.  Please help us by not playing Hiestand until it has been reopened.

Watch this forum and the http://madcitydisc.org website for further course updates.

The course is closed.

No baskets in the ground of Hiestand Park.

Baskets will be back in the ground of Hiestand Park May 1.

I just played Stoughton yesterday afternoon and while there were some wet spots and the teepads were getting muddy it wasn't too bad.  You can also look at the MADC Area Course Page for more course information www.madcitydisc.org/Sidemenu/Courses.html

I live right next to Hiestand Park and noticed that there are still large amounts of people playing even though the baskets aren't there. Especially today there were many cars parked along the roadside and I saw different good sized groups of people go through.

Now, we all want the ground to regenerate so the baskets can be back in the ground May 1st. Is there anything that should be done if there are continuously groups that play even though it's closed or is that something that is just the way it is and one can't really do anything about it? What do you guys think?

There is probably not much you can do about it since it's a city park.  It's basically open to the public.  In my home town the high school football field is on city property.  The football booster club wanted to keep everyone off the field so the grass would be nice and plush come fall.  The city told the booster club they could try to discourage people from using the field but ultimately they couldn't force anyone off the field since it was basically a city park.

I've wondered why courses don't have a spring and a summer pin position.  During this critical time of the year move the target away from the summer pin position.  The spring pin position will take a pounding for 4-8 weeks but would have the rest of the year to recover.  Leaving a basket in the ground will draw the players away from the more desired summer pin position (green).  For example, on #1 put the basket on the side of the hill.  #3 could be at the bottom of the hill (real short).

It's obviously hard to keep people off the course after being couped up all winter.  I'm suggesting luring them away from the traditional greens during this time of year.  It doesn't mean you couldn't still advertise the course as being closed, suggest club members refrain from using the course, and holding leagues at other courses.  Heck the football booster club paid for some of the nicest "keep off the grass" signs I've ever seen and for the most part they work.

Those sound like really good ideas Jay.

Maybe we also need some signs to put on the cars that say the more you play the course while the baskets have been pulled the longer it will take for the baskets to be put back in the course needs its beauty sleep.

Thanks for your input. I like your ideas. It might really make a difference putting something on cars.

That's a good idea.

Just remember, the people who's car you're putting the sign on don't care if the baskets are in or out so they probably won't care if you keep the baskets out longer.  The ones it will affect are the people that follow the rules and who are not there.

No easy answers I guess.  Sad
