3. What are we going to do in 2007?
Here are the GOALS for MADC for 2007.
We recognize that the most important thing we can do
for 2007 will be to maintain the awesome courses that
we alrady have in the ground and continue to have a
good working relationship with the city and neighborhoods.
(Do hold us accountable)
In Priority order
a. Elver Park Rennovations update (Todd Ebens)
Todd provided a first-cut draft of the Elver Park rennovations that will
be delivered to the city of Madison.
The first-cut draft basically indicated the need for erosion control, on
every hole due to increased traffic.
Todd indicated there will be a city meeting some time in March.
There were a number of recommendations about what additional information
could be included in the proposal
including highlighting the club accomplishments with Adopt-A-Hole at Elver
Park and the rennovations done at Hiestand.
Brad Wendt had recently submitted the "History of the Madison Area Disc
Club" which does highlight the club accomplishments.
Kipp also suggested contacting the cross-country skiers to touch base and
help reduce complaints.
Mike shared that Rick Thomas (an MADC member) has a group of high school
students willing to do a public service project
like helping with the rennovations. They also might be interested in
Adopt-A-Hole @ Elver.
b. Hiestand Rennovations (Brad Wendt)
Nearly complete. Brad continues to make progress typically by himself
Baskets will likely be in ground for another month.
c. Hiestand Trash - (Nic)
Nic Lelm suffered an auto accident the past weekend.
Nic has reassessed his life and feels he can no longer be a part of the
board.
Nic expressed that he would continue to be an active club member.
Nic has resigned his board position.
Todd indicated he would check with Brent Baartman about filling the
position.
Mike indicated he would be willing to coordinate the Adopt-A-Hole effort
at Hiestand.
Kipp shared a number of ideas about Adopt-A-Hole and is willing to
coordinate the
Adopt-A-Hole at Elver Park.
Ideas:
1. What should the minimum age be to adopt a hole? 17
2. What should the minimum age if any be to help with adopting a hole? 14
3. Can we have sponsors like Paradigm Gardens and Play-It-Again Sports
provide
incentives/benefits for those who adopt a hole?
4. Can sponsors sponsor a hole? (Need to check with City of Madison since
it is their property)
5. Recognize Adopt-A-Holers, cleanest hole-of-the-week or something like
that in a public setting (eg League).
6. Publicly display who are the Adopt-A-Holers in the kiosk, website,
etc.
7. Need to coordinate with City of Madison Parks Dept to get a metal
trash can @ #17 @ Hiestand.
This will make it easier to haul trash out of the back 9 holes.
8. Possibly Adopt-A-Holers could lead/supervise high school volunteers
with rennovation work.
9. What about attaching the trash cans to the 4x4 posts like Baraboo
does?
d. Elver Adopt-A-Hole (Waiting)
see above under "e."
e. Tournaments:
1. Discs on Ice (Rob Grether)
-Doesn't appear to be happening, too bad since their is ice.
-Alternative tournament: Snow Throw Massacre @ Stevens Point
2. Pro & AM Worlds in WI
-Brad is still looking for volunteers for the Distance Competition.
Plan your vacation now.
3. 15th Annual Mad City Open (Brad + MCO Team)
-Website is now available as a page on the MADC website. Link on home
page.
f. Bag Tag Challenge (Kipp)
-Kipp found out the company can't print on both sides of the hotel key.
-He also checked with a local company that didn't have a clue and is
waiting to hear back.
-One-sided works for the first year of the MADC Bag Tag Challenge
4. Other stuff
a. Change name from Madison Area Disc Club to MadCityDisc (Brad)
-Brad proposed changing the club name from Madison Area Disc Club
to Mad City Disc. The reasons are:
1. There is the Mid-Atlantic Disc Club (also MADC)
2. Our website is madcitydisc.org
-We discussed what needed to be done.
-Checking account, Articles of Corporation
-Since we are changing the name of the corporation
and the corporation name is in the by-laws we are
technically changing the by-laws so we need to
create a referendum.
-Everybody was in favor of going with the new name
**** Kipp objects to the name change
*** This won't happen without a referendum
*** Deferred, as Brad was not available to articulate the full reason
b. Communications (Mike)
1. Come get your Madison Area Disc Club sticker
2. Sent email to Hiestand Neighborhood Association
a. We can join for $10 this year, $20 next year
1. Recommend we join.
2. Friends of Hiestand, also
-Jamie cut the check for the Hiestand Neighborhood Association
-Mike mailed the check to Susan Hankes
Newsletter:
-Todd suggested we put out a Winter/Spring Newsletter.
-Articles are due by/before the March 12th meeting.
--topcis include: MADTOWN THROW(Snow)Down, Bag Tag, Adopt-A-Hole, Elver
Rennovations,
should also include accomplishments from 2006: Hiestand, MCO, Picnic
c. Disc Golf Talk @ Jefferson High School (Kipp/Mike)
1. We received an email from Dena Smith, on 9/8/2006
-Brad thought it best to have somebody who knows what
they are doing to be doing the teaching. The other
volunteers don't have to be a teacher.
--Todd is interested in helping if he can get away from his many endeavours
d. Expanding Disc Golf in the Madison-area
--Todd observed Madison is essentially "full" regarding new disc golf
courses
--Dane County is the place to look lots of opportunities.
e. Kipp presented a design for MADC T-Shirts which he'll send to John Dorn for
an estimate
