Goodman Pool Disc Golf Day deemed a success!
We had 3 floating mini baskets, 1 floating full size basket, a mini putting station, and a full size putting station within the pool grounds. Outside the pool gates, we had a 3-hole temp course and driving range set up.
There was a lot of interest, and we got a lot of great feedback from kids and parents. The lifeguards observed that disc golf kept the kids focused and engaged.
The full size floating basket was the star of the show. Everyone in the pool turned to look as it was brought onto the water!
The driving range and temp course served a valuable purpose by attracting attention of the passersby.
MADC gave out about 80 discs to the kids as they left the pool. They were so excited to have something of their own!
Check out our Facebook Page for pictures from the event!
2011 Disc Golf Course Utilization Surveys
We are conducting disc golf course utilization surveys again this year. These surveys give the City of Madison a better understanding of how Madison courses are used, and will help MADC better serve you.
In hopes of securing more volunteers this year, we have already scheduled survey days for the whole season. Please consider volunteering for a time slot this summer. Dates, times and details are listed on this forum post.
Welcome to our New Elver Park Adopt-a-Hole Coordinator, Jon!
We are still looking for 4 more volunteers for the 2011 disc golf season at Elver Park.
Jon Hart has graciously stepped up as coordinator for Elver. Let's help make his first year as coordinator a great one!
Available holes can be found here.
The responsibilities of an Adopt-a-Holer are:
- General maintenance, trash and debris clean-up around your hole and through the fairways;
- Contacting your course's coordinator of any problems or concerns with your hole; and
- Special attention prior to tournaments and/or special events.
Please do take into consideration the time commitment and effort it takes to be an Adopt-a-Holer. During the summer, it is not uncommon for trash cans to fill entirely in 1 week or less. By adopting a hole, you become a representative of the Madison Area disc golf community.
A very big thank you to all past, present and future Adopt-a-Holers! It is your hard work and dedication that allows us all to take pride in and enjoy Madison's beautiful courses.
Elver Park DGC closed on 7/5 at Noon
The disc golf course at Elver Park will be closed to the public starting at Noon Tuesday, July 5th for the fireworks this evening. The course reopens tomorrow morning.

2006 Spring Newsletter
AREA COURSES CLOSED
2/11/09 - Heistand Park Baskets have been partially removed and will be completely removed by the end of this week. We are asking for you cooperation in staying off all the Madison Area Courses while they are CLOSED.
The Heistand Park Disc Golf Course will be reinstalled sometime between Mid-April and Early May. Staying off the course until it officially reopens will help the course recover from the spring thaw and be reinstalled as early as possible.
The Elver Park Course will also be reinstalled sometime between Mid-April and Early May. Token Creek Park tends to open May 1st.
PLEASE STAY OFF THE COURSES WHILE THEY ARE CLOSED, it is in everyone's interest to let the courses recover from the spring thaw. The less traffic on the course means a nicer course for every disc golfer this summer.

You complete a membership form and send it to the PDGA along with a check (made payable to "PDGA"). The PDGA keeps 100% of my money.Affiliate Club Program way of joining/renewing...
You complete a membership form and mail it to the MADC or drop it off at Glide. Your check is made payable to "Madison Area Disc Club." Cash works too. The club then mails in a big batch of membership forms and a single check made payable to the PDGA. In return for easing the PDGA's administrative burden, the club gets to keep $5 for each membership it processes. If you're thinking of joining or renewing for 2009, please do it through the club. This is a great fundraiser that costs you nothing and keeps $5 of your PDGA membership here in Madison.

4th Annual Kiwanis Disc Golf Tournament
8/25/08 - The Stoughton Kiwanis will be hosting their 4th Annual Disc Golf Tournament on Saturday, September 6th. As in past years, this will be a fun event to introduce Americas fastest growing sport, disc golf, to the community and raise money for Stoughton Area youth programs.
The tournament is open to players of all levels of experience and skill. Players of similar skill and age levels will compete against one another in an 18 hole, lowest score competition. There are separate brackets for beginning and advanced players with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in each division.
Even if you dont play, the public is invited to come out and cheer on the competitors, support our local youth, or simply to take a walk along the beautiful Yahara River Trail that runs along the Kiwanis Disc Golf Course.
This years competitors will be among the first to experience recent improvements to the course made by the Stoughton Kiwanis Club. Working with the city Parks and Recreation Dept., Kiwanians recently spent nearly $2000 to purchase and install permanent state-of-the-art rubber tee pads on the course. By providing a more stable surface, these new pads are expected to help players achieve even longer, more accurate drives under virtually all weather conditions. Players may observe other course and tournament improvements as they compete.
The event will be held at the scenic Kiwanis Disc Golf Course at Amundson Park in Stoughton. The entry fee is only $3 per student, $5 per adult, or $10 per family. Registration starts at 9:00 AM on the day of the event, followed by a shotgun start at 10:00 AM, and Awards Ceremony at noon. If you dont own a disc yet, a limited supply will be available for sale at the event.

Brad Wendt and others will be at Elver Park Today from 1 pm until 5 pm moving roc from hole 1 to tees 2, 9, and 18.
If you have a strong back come help. Shovel and gloves will help, some extra shovels and gloves will be on hand.
Other jobs are to clean up wacked weeds at various places on the course and trash removal.
Hole 9 is one hole in need of gathering brush. Pile it some where we can put it in a trailer. A pitch fork or hard garden rake works.

NO Glass Allowed
06/30/07 - A growing problem at both the Hiestand Park and Elver Park Disc Golf Courses is the increase of glass containers on the course.
With the Adopt-A-Hole project in full swing at both courses there has been an increase in the discussions about what to do about the glass. Glass containers are making the trash bags extra heavy and our causing a safety concern for the volunteers. One volunteer was recently cut by a piece of broken glass that cut through the trash bag and cut them in the leg while removing the bag from the course. Broken glass is also ending up near the teeboxes creating another hazard.
There is a City Ordinance on the books that prohibits glass in any city park which reads
8.24 ALCOHOL BEVERAGE CONTROL AND CONTAINER CONTROL ON CERTAIN PUBLIC PROPERTY. (3) No person may possess any cup, glass, flask, bottle or other container made of glass or other shatterable material designed or used for holding a beverage in City of Madison parks. So please DO NOT BRING GLASS containers to either course. The city has informed the club it is possible for individuals to be issued citations for violating the above ordinance.

Hiestand is in the ground
5/31/06 - Hiestand baskets are in the ground. Be warned....... Holes 6, 7, 9 and many alternate pins are NOT mowed. Some of the fairways are twenty feet wide with remaining grass being very tall.
Please be patient with mowing and the renovation construction as the rain is slowing everything down.
Watch for renovation work time announcements. A good amount of digging remains to be done.
Local disc golfer gives kidney to niece
![]()
5/20/06 - On May 10, 2006 Chris Budzien (a local disc golfer) gave his left kidney to his 5 year old niece, Justin Prince. She was diagnosed with renal failure, in Feb. 2006 and was in need of a kidney. She started dialysis in March, 2006. Thanks to Chris she didn't have to wait long in May they were in surgery, at UW Hospital! They are both doing very well!! There will be a 4-6 week recovery period for both Chris and Justice. Our family has opened an account for Chris and Justice to help cover medical costs that are not covered by insurance (co-pays, medicine, etc.) before and after surgeries. Also, this account will help to cover the living expenses for both Chris and Justice's family while they are off work taking care of Justice and Chris.
Donations should be made payable to Justin Prince and sent to:
- The Post Office Credit Union
- 151 West Corporate Drive
- Madison, WI 53714
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. We thank you in advance for your generosity. Thank you The Prince and Budzien families.
If you would like to see how we are doing you can check Justices's care page at CAREPAGES.COM after you sign in go to OURSWEETANGEL

Elver Park Now In
4/24/06 - Elver Disc Golf Course is now in the Ground. Please follow all of the park rules when at the course.
**Remember** the trails at Elver Park are always open to walkers, these trails that double as fairways are NOT exclusive to disc golf, so PLEASE if a walker is on the fairway, wait to throw until they are out of the way.
Trash is a big enough problem, but PLEASE leave glass at home. Glass is NOT allowed in the parks.
*Remember* trash clean up is totally volunteer. If the course stays clean, it stays in the ground. If litter gets out of control, the course is a goner, taken out of the ground, no baskets. Please take it upon yourselves until we get Adopt- a -Hole reastablished this year. There will be an announcement this week yet with Adopt- a -Hole details. Watch for it.
