The Bird's Ruins course in Marshall is now CLOSED until further notice. It sustained major wind damage in last night's storms. Many trees are down, the shelter was destroyed, and even tee signs are mangled. There may be some upcoming opportunities to help with clean up, and we will let you know as soon as the Village of Marshall and/or the Rebel Disc Golf Club let us know. For your safety, though, please stay off the course right now.
We are looking for volunteers to help install the baskets at Elver and Hiestand tomorrow morning (Wed May 1st). Please meet in the Elver parking lot at 9 AM. If we have enough volunteers to split into two groups, one group may go to Hiestand right away. Otherwise, we will install Elver first and then move over to Hiestand. The more people show up, the faster and easier it will go, and the quicker we can all play. If you haven't gotten your City of Madison disc golf permits yet, don't wait any longer! FYI, the disc golf course at Ripley Park in Cambridge is now open for the season, as well. We've received word that the Vallarta - Ast DGC at Token Creek County Park should be open by noon today (Friday, April 26th). The club celebrates the traditional start of the local disc golf season with our annual Spring Kickoff. Saturday, May 11th Bird’s Ruins DGC, Langer Park in Marshall See the flyer for event schedule Please note that the location is different from recent years, when it has been held at Hiestand. There will be a lot of great local disc golf events this year, and we want to spread them out to different courses. The Kickoff also serves as the beginning of our club’s membership year. The cost to join or renew is $15 ($10 for juniors under age 16). You will receive a bag tag for joining, which can be used all year long for the MCDG Bag Tag Challenge. The initial distribution of bag tags will be based on the results of the random-draw doubles round ($5 additional fee) played at the Kickoff. Anyone who joins at the Kickoff but does not play doubles, or joins anytime after the Kickoff, will receive the lowest numbered tag remaining. The rest of your membership fee allows the club to put on events and promote disc golf and other flying disc sports in the greater Madison area. We've changed our name from the Madison Area Disc Club, to Mad City Disc Golf. New name, new logo, same passion for disc golf. We will continue to promote disc golf and other flying disc sports throughout Madison, Dane County, and beyond. With your help, the club will continue to grow, allowing us to offer more events for members and the community at large. Thanks for your patience as we update the new name and logo throughout our social media sites and web page. Keep using http://madcitydisc.org/ for now. Join us for the Mad City Disc Golf Spring Kickoff on Saturday, May 11th, at the Bird's Ruins DGC at Langer Family Park in Marshall. We have been in communication with all of the local park agencies that have seasonal disc golf courses, in order to get the most accurate, up-to-date information about course opening dates. This includes Madison, Dane County, Maple Bluff, Marshall, and Cambridge. At this time, we are not aware of any firm dates to open those courses. They are all evaluating conditions, as we had a prolonged winter and recent heavy rains. We want to be the clearinghouse for information, so those agencies are not swamped with constant calls asking about the courses. We will post information, as we receive it, to the Course Openings / Closings page on this website. Right now, courses in Stoughton, Prairie du Sac, Waterloo, Watertown, Baraboo, Beaver Dam, and Horicon are among those open for play. Due to a request from the campus based on the soggy conditions, the Baraboo Open has been postponed two weeks, and will now be held on Sunday, April 28th. Please contact Terry Miller to either request an immediate refund, or to tell him you will still play on the 28th. For those of you who had not signed up, now you've got another two weeks to do so! While we wait for many of the Madison-area courses to open for the season, take the short trip north and play in the 2013 Baraboo Open, on Sunday, April 14th. This PDGA C-Tier tournament will consist of two rounds of 18-holes on the Baraboo Lions DGC on the campus of UW - Baraboo / Sauk County. Ladies, you can sign up to play in the Advanced Women or Intermediate Women divisions for just $10. More details and registration information can be found at the following links: Flyer I Registered Online (click on Disc Golf and scroll down under Lifetime Disc Sports Events) The Bird's Ruins disc golf course in Marshall was also closed today. It will re-open as soon as the ground dries up enough. If you haven't seen the news yet, our club's Spring Kickoff will be held at Bird's Ruins on May 11th. We hope to see you there! The disc golf course at Hiestand Park is now closed for the spring thaw. Please stay off the course until it reopens, typically around May 1st. Thank you for your cooperation. |
